News, products, marketing and merchandising tips for the
front end of community pharmacies

Skincare Salutations

July is the month that merchandisers are asked to update the Skincare section. While you are at it, you may want to move it. Yikes! Yep, if you have a robust greeting card section, you will find that women purchase over 90% of the cards. Placing haircare and skincare near the cards may make a nice new and profitable home for skincare.

Clip strips for your lips

Speaking of UV protection. Make sure to stock up on lip balm that offers both moisturizing and SPF protection! This is an excellent time to break out the "clip strips." A clip strip attached to every other endcap with a high-end lip balm makes great merchandising sense.

P.S. Don't forget to use highlighter or signs for your sunglasses if they offer UV protection.

Smiles Over Sales

Our brains process pictures faster than words. A sign with a photo of a person with a big smile is more effective in getting people's attention than a sign that reads "Sale!" Additionally, our brain has a special space for understanding numbers. At times numbers shown as a price can be taken as a warning more than encouragement. Example: "Rollator $69.99" can be scary to some people. It seems like a lot of money. A sign with a photo of a person smiling using a rollator with the words "Stylish, easy-to-use Rollator that easily folds and fits in most car trunks" will easily outperform the "hey, this is $69.99" sign.

P.S. The price is not on the sign; it is on a string tag tied to the Rollator. Go ahead and give it a try.

Make a note with masking tape

Use a small piece of masking tape to mark the date when an endcap, floor display, and or counter display was first used on the sales floor. If it hasn't produced any sales in 2 weeks, then relocate it or take it completely down. If sales slowly start to go down, give it 2 more weeks by relocating it.
